No, not the asteroid.
Rather, a book to help children understand why mommy got herself a boob job, tummy tuck, and nose job.
"You see, as I got older, my body stretched and I couldn't fit into my clothes anymore. Dr. Michael is going to help fix that and make me feel better."
I am, in fact quoting. Seriously.
Judy Blume (if she were in fact dead) would be spinning in her grave fast enough to start a fire. As she's alive, she's probably just nauseated.

Dude, you hat-tip me alongside BoingBoing? You're awesome!
I heard about this book for the first time on "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me" on NPR this past weekend. Thought it was a joke, but it's not. What's the world coming to? Oh yes, an end!
Saw this book on the Today Show, if memory serves me right. Hilarious and ridiculous.
while I do agree that this book provides some rather...uh..mixed messages on self esteem, I do believe it's intention is to provide help for children in those situations.
there are children's books of all kinds to help them understand the all too shocking realities of life. some are done in a good way (read "Everyone Poops" by Taro Gomi) while some, like this book, completely miss the mark.
i would like to hear from all its critics, how would/should one approach the subject with their kids? If you were to re-write the book what messages would you put in it?
